Story Comes Alive

We were down at the Dallas Life Foundation on Thursday and after the service a homeless lady came up to me with money.

I was confused and thrown off.

I told her “No, No… we don’t take money.” Then she said, “This is my tithe and offering.”

I was blown away. Literally stunned by what was happening. I took the crumpled up bill and gave it to the Dallas Life staff.

Here someone who has nothing, gave $5 to a cause greater than her self. Presumably all she had. I was speechless. A heart like hers in that moment would change the world if people with plenty would give in such a way. Again, such to be learned by the simple actions of everyday people.

The Story of Mark 12 comes to life, in our city, a couple days ago.

Mark 12: 41-44

Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a fraction of a penny. Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”
