If I am to be ‘reborn’, then what does it look like from here to there?

I mean… if my spirit is new, but my flesh is still old, will there not be conflict?

YES! There will be quite a conflict. Your physical body will still crave things of its old self but your spirit will seek things that the new self desires. In this lies the struggle of Christian existence. This is where we pick up our cross daily and follow Him.

You will fall to the flesh from time to time, in different capacities and allowances, and that is why God allows grace. However, because we have a spirit (now filled with the Holy Spirit) we have the power to overcome our flesh. We can literally tell our bodies what to do and keep them in check.

How can you tell who has been reborn? Well, that is up to God ultimately. But, He does say in His Word that you can tell by how they continue to act over the long term (fruit), and how they view Jesus.

1 John 3:9 No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God.

1 John 5:1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves His child as well.

We all make mistakes, but a person reborn will learn from them. In the end the Spirit wins. There will be times of failure and victory but over all God will always be victorious. No matter what your addictions are, no matter how disgraced you feel, you CAN overcome. The power of Jesus Christ is unmatched and unstoppable.

1 John 5:4 for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.

There is more power in the Spirit than in our flesh. And we are renewed by our source of strength, the one who placed His Spirit inside us, Jesus.
