The Depraved Democracy

“So long as we have enough people in this country willing to fight for their rights, we’ll be called a democracy.” – ACLU Founder Roger Baldwin

What exactly are our rights?

Just curious.

What the Bible says is definitely different than what the general public in America thinks. So I guess my question is… is Democracy Biblical? Does our environment impact the way we view God? Do we then view God as a President that we vote in or out, or do we see Him as the Most High God?

How does the governmental context in which we live affect how we respond to God?

The idea of democracy is simple yet complex. You give the people the right to vote on their leader and their laws. But what happens when the culture shifts and they live out their depravity? Will a depraved people vote on a depraved leader and laws that satisfy their desires?

Yes.

By giving the people what they want, you are in essence inciting mob rule. The ‘popular vote’ develops law and what is popular dictates political platform. Therefore, the people chose their destiny. We chose it at the voting booth and with our wallets. We put in place what is most important to us. Our system is entirely dependent on the morality of the people voting and choosing the laws which govern them.

Romans 1:24-25  “Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.”

Could it be that our democratic republic is in fact this scripture lived out?

If we get what we want, then what is our future?

Deuteronomy 28-30. Although contextually written to Israel, the same principles can be applied to any nation. Insert America.

God Bless America?

Perhaps not. God bless whoever does His will. That may not be America at all.
