The Best is Yet To Come

Let’s face it, life can be discouraging. There is a saying, “The only thing guaranteed in life is death and taxes!”  Or “There is no such thing as a free lunch!” Negative views on life, but… there is a hint of truth in these statements.

Life is hard. It has it’s moments of brilliance, but if you have lived long enough you know to soak those moments up because they won’t last forever. However, rather than living for those ‘good’ moments wouldn’t it be much more freeing to rise above our trials?

James addresses this for the believer.

James 1:2-4  Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

But what are you persevering for?

James 1:12  Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.

Check out verse 12: ‘when he has stood the test’. You will not be tested forever! And after you have stood the test you are rewarded. Sometimes here on earth, ultimately in heaven. But, the realization that you can rise above this world is the greatest earthly gift. Everything is in a state of decay. Praise God our spirits are not. And although death dominates this world, we know Life.

I am a fan of Frank Sinatra’s music and his song The Best is Yet To Come came to mind yesterday. I had a phone conversation with a strong woman of God who is a recent widow. The way she talks about her husband is amazing. Although she misses him dearly, she is thankful for time the Lord gave them together.

The Holy Spirit gave me something in that moment… The Best is Yet To Come. Our hope and joy is in our salvation. Death has been conquered, so although it separates us believers for a while we will all be reunited.

Psalm 51:12  Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.

So if death has been conquered, what else is there to fear? We can walk victoriously in this life and into the next. Our hope is in Jesus and our joy is in being with Him and all those who have gone before us into eternity. The trials will not go away, they may increase in number and intensity, but our resolve can overcome all when we are rooted in Jesus. We have a “crown of life” to claim here, and to look forward to there.

Be strong and courageous. Christian, you have the power to rise above. Claim victory, it is already yours. Is someone around you hurting or in a trial? GO HELP THEM in Jesus’ name.

This peace, from grace, is only for those who put their trust in Jesus. Want to know more about Jesus? Visit or email
